SK8 Trip to Maryhill - Abec11 Longboarding

The ABEC 11 Maryhill Festival of Speed is one of the premiere downhill skateboarding and street luge events in the world. Top racers from around the world converge on the Maryhill Loops Road to compete in the first world cup event on the IGSA tour.

This year GRN TM riders came from all over the world to participate. A bunch of skaters piled into the Sk8Trip Bluebird bus at our headquarters in Huntington Beach and others were picked up in San Francisco and Portland along the way. This video captures the skate trip with their traveling highlights and experiences.

This past summer Ihad the priveledge of spending 11 days in a decrepit 80's Blue Bird RV with Fernando and 9 other skateboarders on a trip to Goldendale Washington for the 2011 Maryhill Downhill Festival of Speed. I was given the task of documenting the entirity of the trip & later compiling a short documentary. To make an extremely long story short...shit happens.

Day 1 -
Mile 25: Our muffler rusted out.
Mile 40: The throttle stuck to the ground (Anyone seen the film Speed?)
Mile 300: Engine overheats in the middle of I-5...it's dark too.

Day 3 -
- My tooth gets shot out by a BB gun. Nobody knows who did it or even saw it happen. Sniper...
- Firework fight. Several fires are started & immediately put out.
- 1 windshield blown out via M80.
- Cops were called & fun was extinguished.

I will stop here. All I have to say is,"Alcohol, fireworks, and kateboarding(ers) are okay. But when you mix the three together, innocent people lose teeth."

Captian Rory Russel at the wheel of the Blue Bird. Bring me that horizon...
The famous Maryhill Loops road...people travel from across the world to take a run down this perfectly paved 2.2 mile stretch of heaven.
Liam Morgan & Fernando Yuppie taking a nap....1000 miles to go.
